HIV+ persons experience distress from the disease and the economic and medical management issues that impact their quality of life. Distress has been shown to negatively impact the immune system in many studies. The purpose of this study was to test an Ericksonian hypnosis intervention designed to reduce distress and relieve the immune system. Forty HIV persons were randomly assigned to either the hypnosis audiotape intervention group or the assessment-only control group. Psychosocial and immunological measures were taken before and after the intervention. Although there were no significant intervention effects, other intriguing findings suggest future paths for research. Frequency of audiotape listening was significantly related to changes in viral load. There was a highly significant correlation at baseline between both total mood disturbance and anger with subsequent increases in viral load being associated with high anger and mood disturbance at baseline. Researchers and others interested in the use of hypnosis to effect changes in behaviors, moods and the immune system will find this study informative and suggestive of future directions in this area of mind-body research.

This study analyzes the legal status of translators in Turkey, defined in contradicting terms in the two Turkish laws and accounts for the factors determining the translators'' self-images. The Turkish Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works defines the translator as the ‘owner of the processed work'', whereas the Press Law holds the translator liable as the ‘owner of the work'' in case of a criminal case against the translated work. An analysis of certain cases in Turkey, in which translated books have been prosecuted/ banned or even confiscated, reveals that translators base their defensive pleas on the argument that they are the “messengers” of the source authors and thus, should not be convicted. This is indicative of a discrepancy between the image of the “rewriter” assigned to translators by translation scholars and translators'' self-images . In this book, it is argued that translators''self- images are shaped by not only the present controversial legal status but also historical and social factors which have led translators to assume a subservient role rather than acknowledging their own power as cultural agents.

This work presents an IPv6-based mobility support scheme for vehicular scenarios. The focus of this study is on the modelling of an efficient network layer handover scheme suitable for vehicular network environments. In order to achieve this, a Vehicular Fast handovers for Mobile IPv6 (VFMIPv6) network layer protocol has been proposed. This scheme employs the predictive mode of Fast handovers for Mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6) standard. The proposed VFMIPv6 scheme aims at reducing the long handover latency currently affecting the performance of ITS delay-sensitive applications which lead to degradation in overall QoS. The proposed scheme adopts the concept of sectorisation using directional antennas. The GPS devices mounted on vehicles aid in keeping track of the vehicles' real-time mobility parameters so as to reduce the delay due to the Router discovery process. Furthermore, the proposed scheme exploits the huge IPv6 address space such that each On-board Unit and each Subnet Access Router is assigned a permanent global IPv6 address with which it is reachable regardless of its location. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the current standard solutions.
Debate has arisen amongst researchers regarding the etiology of adolescent psychopathy. Some write that the focus of research should be ADHD, as many of the behaviors associated with the disorder are similar to that found in psychopathy. Other scholars disagree, writing that the emphasis should center on Conduct Problems, as they are a better indicator of future problems. Many of the behaviors associated with psychopathy are seen in students assigned to alternative educational settings. In order to gauge which factor had the strongest relationship with psychopathy, 80 male students, ranging in age from 12 to 18, placed at interim alternative educational settings for misbehavior were assessed using the Antisocial Process Screening Device---Youth Edition (APSD-Y) to determine level of psychopathy. ADHD was assessed using the Behavior Assessment Scale for Children- Second Edition (BASC-2) and Conners-Wells’ Adolescent Self-Report Scale-L (CASS:L); likewise, both instruments were used to assess conduct problems. Each instrument used a self-report method. Results indicated conduct problems had a statistically significant relationship with adolescent psychopathy; however, ADHD did not.
The ultimate purpose of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of portfolio on developing English vocabulary for non-English Majors at Al-Arich Faculty of Education. The subjects of the present study were 79 first year colleges who were randomly selected and assigned into two groups of the study. The tools used in this study were The Pre-Post Students' Vocabulary Test "The Pre-Post SVT", The Post Experiment Students' Questionnaire "PESQ", A Checklist for Portfolio Self, Peer and Rater Assessment, and The portfolio Program. The portfolio program was administered to the experimental group in the first term of the academic year 2006-2007 at Al-Arich Faculty of Education. Results showed that the portfolio program was effective in developing the experimental group vocabulary and self assessment skills. Analyzing student' portfolio entries showed improvement of students performance .Moreover, the results of the PESQ showed a great deal of satisfaction among students regarding the use of portfolios. Generally, Students felt that the portfolio program was useful and valid. Recommendations and suggestions for further studies were provided.
