In this study we have tried to harvest labeled clusters of semantically similar named entities which can be used as a first step for web document clustering. We first collect ~44,000 named entities from a thesaurus which is constructed by Dekang Lin applying a word similarity measure based on their distributional pattern. Using their similarity metrics and CLUTO clustering software, we create 2000 semantically similar clusters of the named entities. Then we collect ~305,500 label-instance pairs from the 2007 English Wikipedia dump and implement a labeling algorithm presented by Benjamin Van Durme and M.Pasca (2008) to assign a label to the clusters. This automatic lableing task is able to assign a label which describes the majority of the named entities in 924 of the clusters, which is 46.2% of the total clusters. Finally we evaluate both the clustering and labeling tasks taking 86 randomly selected clusters and on the bases of two native English speaker evaluators? subjective judgment. According to these evaluators, the clustering task has a purity score of 0.7 and 55% of the labels are acceptable with different degree of accuracy.

Arranged in an easy-to-use A-Z form, "The New Penguin Concise Thesaurus" offers a vast selection of synonyms for a whole host of words, ranging from the everyday to the comparatively esoteric and from standard vocabulary to contemporary slang and jargon ("e-tailer", "chill out"). This unique reference volume is two books in one: a dictionary of slang and a slang thesaurus, with both sections treating the same words and phrases. Entries are arranged alphabetically in the dictionary and thematically in the thesaurus. Entries in both sections include definition, pronunciation, part of speech, word origins, usage information, and usage alerts when applicable. All entry words are visually coded to help readers distinguish slang that is potentially objectionable from milder slang, and all synonyms are coded for the level of formality (formal, informal, no register) and separated by part of speech. This arrangement gives readers more information about the potential effects of their chosen word on their audience than they can get from a "regular" thesaurus. With this book, readers can find out, for instance, how the screaming meemies got their name, why someone might be offended by use of the apparently inoffensive word crumbs, and which words that mean to kill also mean to cause riotous laughter. They can also distinguish comparative shades of meaning in such phrases as an old fart, a son of a bitch, and a silly ass. Here is a handy reference book for students, word buffs, and professional writers - a title that merits a place in every reference library. Printed throughout in two colors. Warning - Includes words that some might find offensive.

The present study aimed to explore the relation between the effect of Thesaurus learning by EFL learners and their listening comprehension ability. To do it, the researcher considers the importance of thesaurus knowledge and how it could possibly affect Iranian EFL learners' listening comprehension ability. Despite the wide range of areas investigated in listening strategy research, there is a lack of research looking specifically at how listening strategy use develops or changes over time in the absence of explicit strategy training. Therefore, to help language learners to improve their listening comprehension ability, special attention must be gained towards vocabulary expansion. With regard to the relationship between one's knowledge of words in a second or foreign language and one's listening comprehension ability, there are also some studies, though few in number, which show that having good lexical knowledge can have a positive effect on one's listening comprehension. In fact, researching spoken vocabulary has always been more difficult than written vocabulary. That is due to two important features which differentiate spoken language from written language.
This is the first thesaurus created especially for students of English who are not native speakers. Together with its companion dictionary, it is a great resource for students preparing for the SAT-I, TOEFL, UCLES, TESOL, or other English examinations.
In the present cyber world, it is necessary to have a good understanding about the topic and choose the right query term to retrieve exhaustive, relevant information. Studies of on-line use have revealed that subject searches are the most frequent type of search, yet a surprising number of subject searches (30-50%) fail to retrieve records whatsoever. The causes of search failure appears to be, lack of thesaurus, misspelling, mistyping of search terms and problems in understanding the use of Boolean logic. If a veterinarian lacks domain knowledge, when looking for information on a specific topic, the retrieval process can be a real challenge An attempt has been made in this work to study the role of thesaurus in retrieval of Veterinary information. The aim is to grasp in a better way how a thesaurus can help to improve the retrieval effectiveness by using queries generally utilized by the veterinarians. The study suggests the lexical information can be used as a controlled vocabulary to overcome problems with synonymous and lexical variance and its relational knowledge is potentially useful for identifying preferred term and abbreviation etc.,
